No in this case it's the label that makes it unique, not the coin. The coin is available, the label isn't.

How do you fix a scratched slab?

ABSOLUTELY NOT. The fumes from the glue may adversely interact with the coin. And you never know, some of the glue may get inside and damage the coin.

Headlight lens polish. Tiny bit of polish and heavy elbow grease.

You paid for a slab that arrived damaged. You will always regret not returning it. In my opinion, if you didn't know the slab was cracked when you bought it, you didn't get what you paid for. How was the coin packaged to make the slab arrive cracked? Good luck finding somebody to pay for a cracked slab when you or your heirs go to sell it someday. But if you are happy with it, that's all that matters.

Final chapter in this thread. Seller decided they did not want to refund part of the purchase price. On it's way back today. I'll keep looking for another. I guess that's part of the collector thing - looking for items that we see value in, even when someone else might not.

the NGC "moon core" is "Available for select bulk submissions only". Modern Coin Mart, GovMint, probably the coin tv shows that sell stuff also.

I like the way it looks, however, It's not something that I'd add to my collection since it's one of those "domed" coins.

It depends on how it was discussed with NGC, and what they understood during the conversation.

If the question was "Hi , NGC, my holder is cracked and I want to get it reholdered with the "moon core" holder"..... that might get a different answer than, "I have this coin, it's in a moon core slab that is cracked from shipping and I want it reholdered to the same core".

It was only available for bulk submissions, they will not normally reholder to it, which is how I think they might have understood what you were asking for them to do.
However I get the feeling, what you wanted done wasn't understood by the person at NGC effectively, it doesn't make sense to give you the run around, when they could just charge you the reholder fee and make you happy.

I'd give them another shot, and explain it crystal clear it is a moon core, and the lens is cracked and you want it reholdered to the same thing.

and yeah, it's not the label, it's not the coin, it's actually just the core that looks like the surface of the moon that makes it "special" from other NGC slabs.

Why? His negligence in packing the item properly caused all of your problems. Last time you buy from this guy, right?

Most likely a single submitter that has the rights to it and they technically cant do anything with it unless the submitter with the rights to is submits it again. Those cores are generally specific to a single submitter.
