AMEN!!! The individual making this post, as in the past, is always right, his opinion must be taken as correct without any data to back it up. As a retired detective, I never encountered anything like this and I came from an area that had many dealers, coin shows and collectors, several of whom were personal friends and NONE of them ever encountered this.He goes on the ignore list.

I think this thread has really lost its way. I like most of the postings on Coin Talk, but lately there have been quite a few entries that is breeding entries that have nothing to do with Coin Collecting.
Let us be Ladies and Gentlemen and act with the best decorum that we can. We don't need to be rude. We don't need to embarrass those that have posted something that is best responded with professional action. If we do not like an entry or even a topic, we should act like professionally Ladies and Gentlemen and contact those that you disagree with and Let them know that there is no place for entries that are not relevant to the topic at hand.
As my mother used to tell us:

Entertaining story, but unfortunately, not typical of experience.

My great grandparents were silver horder and collected Morgan dollars directly from the mint prior to the CC government program. In 1973 there apartment was broken into and robbed of every last coin, well over 1000 silver pieces in a small safe that was drilled to a wall in a closet.

He continued for decades to give out CC Silver dollars for birthdays to all the grand children, and eventually, as that program wound down, gave out proof sets.

He was devastated with the loss and discussed it periodically to anyone that would listen, usually out of the blue, until he died.

That is more typical of what happens.

It is far more numerous instances of people getting shot with their own guns. The wild west mentality to security is a proven failure.

Here is some of the "fake statistics and reports" that are chosen to be ignored

A causaul search through the library archives will find more...

The orignal OP keeps laying out both original source materials, periodics and studies on this topic. Accusing someone of just "makes up stuff" is just making stuff up.

I agree that my experiences are not typical, but they are my experiences. My parents grew up during the depression era. My dad collected magazines at 12 years. That was 1937. Then he went door to door to sell those magazines. My grandmother saved all the coins she could that were old. Those were some of the coins my father left me. I am grateful to my father and grandparents for teaching me honesty and integrity, albeit, if I did something wrong, punishment was immediate. I am also grateful for Cash Talk, because it, too, teaches honesty and integrity. Where else can you go to learn honest (and dishonesty) and integrity.
We have a wonderful hobby with folks that we like to hobnob due to our like interest in coins.
You have given us good words of wisdom and I, for one, am grateful for each and every entry to Coin Talk.
    Thank you.
