Here is another Chinese coin I picked up on Ebay. Weight 26.1 g, size 39 x 3 mm. Handsome, but maybe fake? Since it was mailed from China (with a customs declaration "electronics") it probably must be? (If I've understood correctly the comments elsewhere that the PRC forbids the export of real coins, but fakes are OK.)
At any rate, the detail near the rim looks well defined for this one.

    Welcome your opinions.

I think you probably already know the verdict on this coin but I would like to point out that:

    1. The calligraphy on your coin is crude compared to that of an authentic coin. The strokes are too broad and lack finesse and proper modulation.

    2. Chinese coin catalogs consider this coin to be "scarce" and authentic pieces sell for thousands of dollars.

    3. eBay auction sites appear to have an unlimited supply of these coins which they sell for a few dollars each.

Well thanks for the info. I'm afraid I would be totally incapable of distinguishing between elegant and crude calligraphy, but will take the advice on board. I guess there is no point for a non-expert to collect Chinese coins.

Buying anything from China, Romania, Nigeria..... requires a faith in my fellow man that I've not been able to achieve.

I do not buy anything from Russia, the Baltic countries, or China.
