Ok a friend of mine sent me some coins of his that were in a safe in his house during a very hot house fire. The coins had holder melted on them to the point the dates mm and even the design couldn't be distinguished. There were 2 morgans stuck together. You couldn't see the date on the showing obverse or the mm on the showing reverse. After some time in xylene I was able to separate the 2. And can see the dates and mm. This is the one that you can see well. But both are 1964 d. So what are these coins? My apologies for the condition of this coin. But it is what it is I guess.
I even tried Google and couldn't get a straight answer. And my guy hasn't emailed me back. I asked him about them.
Fakes or Dan Carr fantasy pieces. Here is an interesting article from CoinWorld https://www.coinworld.com/news/prec...-morgan-dollar-and-the-1964-peace-dollar.html
Wasn't there a hub prepared for a 1964 Morgan dollar, in addition to the 1964-D Peace dollar version?
I have heard in the past that some collectors found a 64 die pair. Don't remember if it was a peace or a Morgan. The OP's is a @dcarr
Wonder if an ultrasonic cleaner would help separate the plastic. Freeze and dunk in boiling water might work too.
The xylene is working pretty good but it is taking a while and a lot of changes. He did have success freezing some of the melted blobs and smacking with something to break the plastic off. Some of the coins weren't so bad. But these weren't as lucky.
