Stopped by the bank earlier today to deposit some change in the coin counter and received a 1963B $1 Federal Reserve Star Note after cashing in my voucher. Granted, it's not the prettiest, but it's by far the oldest $1 FRN that I've ever found in circulation. Face: Reverse:
Nice find! Especially since it's a star note. I think there is a premium for those but I'm not sure about that particular note or if it's only the older ones from the 1930s and the high grade ones. Either way though since you got it at face value is a cool find. Congrats!
I doubt there's much of any premium considering the condition, but its something you don't see all that often in circulation.
Have you checked the plates? I've seen some of them sell for more because they have certain letters before the serial number like yours is a G.
I don't know if I have a Barr Note. Need to look. Here are a couple of Federal Reserve $5 redeemable in Gold that I got from change.
Nice. How long ago did you find it? I don't have a big collection but have a few that I had to save just because.
...or passed it on to someone who didn't know ...or was obtained from the collector without consent. But I discovered after a phase of collecting Stars and Barrs that in the circulated condition I found them in, there were no buyers and became a source of emergency money. Ditto two dollar bills.
It’s a shame the condition isn’t better but I guess being in circulation that long it’s bound to show some ware and tear high on the cool factor though
