Here is the BEP New Currency Budget:

    http://www.federalreserve.gov/generalinfo/foia/2010newcurrency.htm

Seems that they are supposed to go into full production some time this month, so when does anyone think the new $100 bill will be unveiled? I think they usually unveil a new design Federal Reserve note 6 to 9 months in advance, before it is coming out, so it should be very soon, and I hope it is. This report says that they currently plan to release the new $100s late this year, so if they are releasing them around fall the design should be unveiled soon I would imagine. I'm guessing that the bill itself may go into circulation in September, and the BEP seems to like that month for issuing new currency. From what I remember, most of the redesigned notes from both the Series 1996 and the Series 2004 series have been released around September, or sometimes into October.

Is anyone else here looking forward to finally seeing the new design?

Assuming nothing else goes wrong to delay the timetable *again* again, I'd say a September-October release makes sense. Any later than that and it'd start running up against the holiday currency season, which would probably be inconvenient...if it's delayed past October, they'll probably just wait until spring.

    Past release dates:
    March 25, 1996 ($100)
    October 27, 1997 ($50)
    September 24, 1998 ($20)
    May 24, 2000 ($10 & $5)
    October 9, 2003 ($20)
    September 28, 2004 ($50)
    March 2, 2006 ($10)
    March 13, 2008 ($5)

Typically, the exact release date is announced about three months in advance, with the design being unveiled two or three months before that. So, combining those facts with the information from the FRB document...I'd expect to see the first Kodachrome $100's appearing in the BEP reports in January or February, the design revealed in April or May, and an announcement made in June or July of a release date in September or October.

Hopefully there will be no further delays. The new $100 bill has been due out since 2005. I would think that 5 years is plenty long enough to make a new $100 bill better than a fortress of steel worth of security features. I do know that, before 2005, they wanted to release the $10 first, because they were looking for new features for the $100, then they made the decission not to redesign the $5 bill again, then that decission was reversed, due to a scam of bleaching $5s and printing 4100s on them, due to their similarly located security features, then I heard that the new $5 if redesigned, would come out after, NOT before, after the new $100, in other words, the $100 was going to come out before the new $5, now we have this even longer delay, so please, do not tell me they might wait until the spring of 2011, or the wait to see them may drive me bonkers. :goofer:

Thanks a lot for the release dates. I actually thought about the latest currency redesign series, and thought "Wait a minute. The Treasury has stated that the larger denomination U.S. currency will be redesigned every 7-10 years or so, right? So, from 2003 to 2010, that already equals 7 years, so, the Treasury should be about ready to release a new redesigned series just as the soon-to-be $100 bill is coming out" Did anyone else notice that? However, I think I read somewhere before, that the Treasury will not release another new series until around 2012 or so (probably after the presidental run, I'm guessing) and that is when they stated that features for the blind may be incorperated into all denominations.

Well hopefully we will see the January BEP report soon. I just got done viewing the December 2009 report. Nothing yet. So hopefully January will be our month. But darn it, I was actually hoping for a quick summer last year, because the new $100s were supposed to be out in late 2008, early 2009 then it changed all the wait to 2010, and I just thought, "You gotta be shi...err...um...kidding me". :goofer:
