is it worth the effort to buy a cent roll with the first day of issue and a postmark,or is that just hype?
Wow, he lucked out and got his hands on a good stash. I originally was an advocate for the eagle design on the reverse for 2010, but liked the shield 2nd best...and after seeing the shield on the actual coin, I have to say that I'm a little disappointed The drafted design was decent, but I thought it was transfer onto a coin much better than it did. -LTB
And from the auction picture, it looks like Lincoln has more of a 5 o'clock shadow than a beard But at least it isn't the creepy-cartoonish Lincoln head that was on the commemorative silver dollar. -LTB
Your call. The first cancelled Hodgenville LP1 rolls went for $100, they're probably $12 now. Make sure you get a date stamp for the day of issue., don't get a generic stamp the PO can use for a month, for the release. Only get it cancelled from the city of the ceremony.
I've heard about the 'cancellation stamp' on the cent rolls here before but what does that mean? Sorry if I'm just being an idiot again! JAC
Someone gets the rolls the mint sells at the ceremony. They affix a stamp (Lincoln) to the roll, walk it to the local ceremony PO and get the roll/stamp cancelled.
It is not canceling the coins, it's canceling the stamp. Basically it's just a date stamp from the post office. It's called canceling because that is the mark placed on postage stamps, stating postage was paid, but cannot be reused. -LTB
did I say that you were? I asked bobbeth if he was referring to Manny when he said that someone had found a 100 roll bag of cents.
Copper bullion bars?! COPPER?!? Since when is copper a precious metal?! Damn! I really gotta start hoarding them copper/bronze cents, like I'd been planning on doing for many years. All of that craziness aside, is copper really worth buying in bullion? I mean, years back I heard that copper is considered a "semi-precious" metal, so is copper really worth THAT much?
MikeNoodle. No. The link at the top of this thread is to an ebay seller who states he got a 100 roll bag from Puerto Rico. Someone posted that it was strange that they were found there and another person asked if that is where all the dimes were found last year. I was answering him by stating that Puerto Rico is where Manny found the 09 nickels, and "this guy" (meaning the guy on ebay selling the 2010 cents, whom I don't know) is going to do the same thing.....make a lot of money from coins found there. Bob
I think it's worth the effort to wait for the cents to come out in circulation. Even if it is an off year with low production numbers such as last year, the mint will probably produce at least a billion cents at Philly, and another billion at Denver. It really doesn't matter how soon or how much you pay for your new coins once everyone else has them in May!
You missed the boat on this one. You thought the seller was Manny, I simply said it wasn't Manny. Of course I'm not Manny. His handle is Rodzm.
