What happened to this cent?

    I found this penny randomly and noticed that the coin had many little blobs all over it. Any one mind telling me how this happened? How rare is this is to happen?

    I've alot of these, delamination I was told.
    Acid also a possibility...
    Who knows, I like them though. 82 and 83 mostly.

    how could it be acid? they are raised not eaten away

    That's what I was told by coin dealers and coin show peeps.

    I never bought that though. I think delamination of some sort.

    But then again what do I know?

    These are very common. The mint had a tough time, especially on those early zinc dates with the copper plating. What you are seeing are "blisters" in the plating.

    Sometimes in these early zinc dates it's harder finding a nice example without at least a few of these bubbles.
