I've been looking for a gold eagle for four months or so and finally found one that had a good price and a decent grade:
I say the obvious grade for this beautiful coin is AU-55 . Trace of wear on hair, above eyes and on coronet. Most of Mint luster is still present . Also, a few dings on the obverse.
I think she is as pristine as they come and pleasingly void of the nicks and hits that so many of these exhibit in the fields. I am at MS61 myself.
MS-62 or 63. Really nice gold. Must remember that gold is soft, so can't use silver grading standards! Not AU, for sure.
No doubt it is a sharp coin, there is evident wear and halo's around the devises, I can't make you stand up to what you have been taught, But, I feel more of you than in the passt feel like I do. this gradeflation is gonna bust, I suggest you all get on the right side of the market. Hopefully @johnmilton responds I will be back by six. Just joking John. I really appreciate your opinion.
Okay, looking at the way people have responded here, it’s way better than AU-55. The lowest grade would be AU-58, but I’m pretty sure it’s in a Mint State holder. I would pay Mint State money for it. I will say MS-63 with the eye appeal of an MS-64. I have pieces with more issues in MS-65 holders. I own one of them. I bought the coin when I was in high school, had it graded figuring it would come back MS-64, and it came back MS-65!
Oh man... I cannot see it with this blasted new tiny computer my IT guys gave me. They don't understand an old man needs large monitors and large images.... Does that say MS63?
Sorry the picture is so small. I was expecting to have it in hand today but won't get it till tomorrow. It is MS63 the picture is off the sellers site.
