Hi, Maybe you know how it is possible to have a leather finish like that on a coin. Maybe damage... but it seem to be impossible... I don't know. Thanks.
It's possible to get a leather look on just about anything using certian types of chemicals. A few years ago a friend of mine hired me to make his beautiful copper garage doors to look tarnished, even though I disagreed with him about how he wanted to do the job, I needed the money and proceeded to apply a cleaner, to remove dirt and greese, then an etching product. Once on you wait a few minutes and wash it off with a spray of water, after drying and his doors looked as ugly as he wanted them too look. The problem I had with this job is that he and his son had tried to do it first and applied the chemicals in reverse. Not good. To acheive that or a leather look the application process is similar but here the etching product is applied through a soft cloth. On other surfaces the process really make the surface look like just the real thing. This information is based on what I have seen others do. The actual process maybe different.
Yeah, unless someone intended to do that to a worthless coin that's one thing, but if the coin had any real value what a shame.
