Two idiotic tornado warnings in the past week have had us all confined to the basement, but me in my man-cave/train room working with my model railroad. Few more branches down and some power outage but otherwise fine upstairs.

I'm gaga crazy about metal detecting... my lovely partner would leave out the part about the MD! I'm lucky enough to live in an area of the country (northern NJ) where there've been people walking around and dropping shiny objects for many, many years. A few years ago, over time found a 1794 Liberty Cap Large Cent, a CC 1875 Seated Liberty Dime, an 1875 SL Quarter and a few nice Barber Dimes, two blocks from my house! I also like to twist wrenches on my '93 SAAB 900s and am also restoring a 1950's Cape, one side at a time! yes, that's me, on the ladder. Don't like Kindles; I like holding a book in my hands, when I read, so I have a bunch of those. Last but far from least, I like to collect and build model aircraft kits; used to have an operation where I made vacuum-formed plastic model airplane kits to sell to other modellers. Right now, saving up to buy a new detector, to see what I missed; all those places around here, where the good stuff is a little deeper under the sod. I collect Walking Liberty Halves and pre-decimal Great Britain. Thanks for asking!

Following the family tree is absolutely fascinating, it kept me occupied for many years. So long as you are prepared for the shocks as well as the nice surprises.

Turns out a cousin was Kim Philby, one of the worst double agents in our (UK) history. I found a family photo for another member of my family. They were VERY dark indians. He has never contacted me since. His problem, not mine

 

I forgot to add on this thread the last time: I have an autographed copy of Leonard Nimoy's paperback book: "I Am Not Spock". I found it in a Cleveland bookstore and thought it was a little pricey and the clerk gave me a funny look. It wasn't until I took it home I realized it was autographed. This was the days in the lull before the Motion Pictures came out when evidently Mr. Nimoy (and the rest) suddenly realized how much money he could make by actually being "Mr. Spock".

 

Thanks for posting, @Pishpash — as soon as my American Civil War fascination subsides, I’m going to turn my attention to investigating a bit of information that my paternal grandfather used to tell folks. He said that some of his ancestors were Royalists during the American Revolution and when the war was over, the family packed up and went to Canada.

 

I was out shopping with the Sis when she came to town a about a month ago she loves antique shops.We went to Bay St.Louis about 25 mins from Biloxi and went into an old shotgun building from the turn of the century how it survived both Camille/Katrina?Anyways I saw this box of spindles not antiques though and found what I thought was four good spindles I knew ATTM instantly what was in store.A little table a bigger house with a foyer would have by the door with either a vase on top or a catch all tray.The color is a stain grey seems to be the color of the times now and I am thinking of inlaying the top and the drawer.The construction is mortise/tenon my preferred method and a box cut on the drawer.
