I got a new curio cabinet and was thinking about displaying my proof 09 lincolns that I got a couple of months ago. It would not be direct sunlight, but my question is would me displaying the book in a kind of open position anyhow effect the coins in a negative way?
I have heard that wood increases toning, you might want to find out what kind of wood the cabinet is composed of, from what some mighty knowledgable posters have said, different kinds of wood, over time, have different effects on coins. I think most of what I heard had to do with silver coinage, but I would be interested to find out what materials are taboo to copper.
As long as they're not directly in the sun i wouldn't worry about it. are they still going to be in the original packaging (from the mint)?
Yes, they are in the plastic encasings. No direct sun would hit them. Maybe the book cover may fade, now that I think of it. I just thought they would display well. Hmmmm
I think that in a curio cabinet you may have a better environment than many people store their coins. I think humidity mould be more harmful to a copper coin than anything your cabinet would offer.
