submitted 17/2009-w proof buffs within the First strike deadline to PCGS out of 17 6.....yes 6!!! came back PR70FS ....1 came back unslabbed "minimum grade" WTF that is absurd to me! Is this the norm???? I am curious if the big online bullion dealers or mail order rare coin guys have this ratio! Things that make you go hhmmmmm
I have no clue , but it seems you hit a jackpot, I'd dump those 70's as fast as I could. More than a 1/3 " perfect " means standards have slackened or you got some real early strikes there buddy......Congrats !!
Given the relative "softness" of gold ('spcially 24k) to other metals, the fact that you recieved so many '70's don't strike me as odd one bit....
They probably have a much higher ratio actually because I'd wager that they are better at picking out 70's than you are. They don't just buy a bunch and send them all in - they screen the coins first and submit only the best. And - the days when PCGS intentionally and artificially kept the pop numbers of 70's down by rarely assigning the 70 grade - are gone ! They no longer practice this policy. For years I used to tell people that PCGS did this and for years I was told I was crazy that they would NEVER do such a thing Well guess what :secret: - they did
Quite a system!! I thought with the US mint minting such high quality proofs you should have gotten more that graded PF70, well how many were PF69? PF69 is still a high grade and some prefer buying PF69 because of the price difference. So what was the minimum slabbed coin results?
