I believe the '78 dime is one of the better dates. It had a high mintage so almost none were saved. Most were poorly made and ugly anyway. In the mint set it isn't too bad with about 60% of them being nice and choice. But most of these ;78 dimes from mint sets are gone now because the sets were dismantled to get the dollars, halfs, and cents. Of the few sets remaining about 75% of the dimes are tarnished. A lot of these tarnished coins can still be saved but it's only about 75% and it must be done now or the percentage drops. Of course it won't be done now because people don't care about them.

For every nice choice '78 dime there are ten nice choice '50-D nickels.

Of course there are still more nice choice '78 dimes than demand so they list at about 12c each.

About 60% of the '78 dimes made for circulation are gone now and the survivors are in F to VF+. A few nice XF's can still be found with a lot of effort.

is it better? It is difficult to capture the bands on a photo. But I think is visible now.

It's just normal attrition. they get sucked out of couch cushions by vacuums and end up in the garbage stream. They get burned up in house fires and bulldozed after floods. Millions are recycled with the automobile they were lost in.

Dimes are especially prone to loss because they are so small and fall between cracks. They're less likely to be seen and worth so little they aren't worth chasing.

OH, yeah. I was sure it was at least 2/3rds bands. It looks like it's at least 9/ 10ths but I still can't see the bands at the right or the junction on the left.

The coin is at least AU+. Did you get it in circulation?!

I'd guess it's MS-62 or so. It looks like haze rather than wear.

Better would be in-focus close-ups showing the sides of the bands.

Your coin has many torch contact marks, but relatively clear fields. IMO…the incomplete bands are due to strike quality. I would grade it 61/62…Spark

Look at the wear on Roosevelt's hair. This would grade low AU at best. Not even close to FB or FT. Go match it up against Photograde.

I don't think that's wear. It looks more like hazing. Wear always starts from the top down and the area that looks worn doesn't correspond to the highest parts.

It could be worn but I believe a better picture would show it is not.

Not wear on the hair, incomplete design by weak strike, goes with the incomplete bands thing on the reverse.

Normally if you find wear on the hair there is also wear to be seen on the upper ear, ear lobe, cheek, nose and chin…I’m not seeing any of that in the pics.
