Hi I came across about 50 of these fairly common 1967 GB pennies opinions VF XF or UNC ? And apologies in advance only Iphone pics I will upload more later
Usually they come in tubes that have been stored for years as they were the last issue. I class them as Unc. There are that many still around I scrap the ones I get, 84 kilos last time at £5 per kilo.
Hi Dave, They must have been in rolls and probably opened by an inquisitive child ha theres about 10 that have 1 shiny side and the other is still perfect but toned. £5 a Kilo isnt bad I just dont know if I could take coins to be weighed in so I have boxes & boxes that will probably never be of any value stored all over the house hahaha
Ive been having a sort out theres not 50 more like approx 400 of these coins is it worth getting a few of the best examples graded ? not for me but maybe my grand children would benefit from finding these at some point in the future
That's a full red UNC. As @daveydempsey mentioned, the 1967 coins can be readily found in this condition, since they were the last of the predecimal pennies struck for circulation (though they did strike 1970 pennies for the proof sets). It's common, even in UNC like that, but very nice. I like these.
Given the costs of certification, I would examine your batch very closely under magnification and choose only the best, most mark-free examples to submit for grading, if you were going to do that. Yep, common, and likely to remain so for the rest of our lifetimes, but I think they'll have their day someday, given that they're the last of their kind. It's just fun to see a full red UNC large penny, when one is so much more accustomed to seeing the well-worn earlier issues in bulk lots: the Georges and Edward VII and those "slick Vickies" all worn flat.
