PCGS did the same for him. He actually gave me 2 coins. Here is the other one. I’m more than honored to have these in my collection.
Last two coins my Father bought as gifts for me before he passed. Makes me happy to look at them, not sad.
Amazing story. We used to live East Of Placerville and had moved to Idaho weeks before that fire. After that fire , Fire insurance became ridiculously priced in the Foothills and Sierra's. Just recently the Caldor fire burned very close to my old home and it destroyed many homes in the Grizzly Flats area .
This coin makes me very happy. Thank you @Beardigger for your generosity. (I can't get the darn thing open to get that hair out!) Smoldering.
It’s not always the scarcer or more valuable coins which make me happy, but those with the best design, toning and eye-appeal. E.g. I admit, sometimes it’s the scarcer coins:
This one may be a cliche - but it makes me very happy! It was the final coin to finish my Lincoln set. It was a coin I thought I would never have, since I first started searching Lincoln cents in the 1960’s. I got it as an MS63, a little under price guide, but it looks so much nicer to me. Not that making money is an issue - it ain’t goin’ anywhere. I like the strike, the coloring, the surfaces, and the luster. It just rings all the bells for me.
Since we're on the US Coins forum, I had to look to see what my current favorite US coin is my collection. That turned out to be fairly easy, even though I have a lot of favorites. This is probably my best US coin right now.
Post a coin that makes you happy. Anything that is small, usually round, that has images and/or letters on it makes me happy. I'm being serious. I have favorite coins, but just seeing a coin on the ground excites me as to its possibilities. Be it a US coin, some token, or a foreign coin, it gets my blood flowing.
These are all really nice coins. But I have found over time that "things," even rare and beautiful things, don't make me happy. On the other hand the stories behind them often are full of happiness. One of my most recent "happy" coins is this, because it came from a very kind and generous CT member, @lordmarcovan, in a recent contest. I also love the history of the early US coinage.
Seeing you happy with that old large cent that's been around the block a few times makes me happy, too.
