Looks like old Abe will be permanently put out to pasture in two years time.

As per typical for the US Mint, the 50,000 last cents will be available only in proof sets which will be auctioned off starting at the measly price of only $179.99.

I wonder if the Mint will run their own auctions through their website, or rely on Ebay to handle this for them.

    You don't say . . . . .

    Well, I've always been a day late and a dollar short . . . . .

    In this case, I'm over 4.5 months late . . . . . we won't discuss how "short" I am this month.

The Cent will never die, not so long as the Big Zinc lobby is alive. One of the largest buyers of Zinc in this country is the US Mint. Big Zinc will NEVER give that up without a fight.

Yeah, the timing on this is well, just right, If it were posted on 4/1/any year, the joke would have been more obvious.

Just proof positive (again) that nobody actually reads anything. Just the headline and then go with it. :banghead:

The proceeds going toward the National debt was the first clue that this was a joke.

must have missed the significance of " and mint the last batch of pennies on April 1, 2023."

it's an old joke been circulating and updated every year since the internet started I think, back when you needed a disk from AOL

    LOL
