I don't think that's damaged. @JCro57 would know if this sort of thing could be faked, or how it would be done. @Fred Weinberg will be able to offer an expert opinion.

In my opinion, it looks like it was struck through some sort of cloth. You can clearly see the fibers. This type of cloth is often used as an absorbent in industrial areas.

It appears that some of the fibers are still stuck to the coin. Is that the case? If genuine, this is a really, really cool, and rare error and potentially worth big money.

Good luck, and I hope it's real!

    Dried Adhesive on the Clad.

Dip it in acetone and it will come right off.

Well, I would be very disappointed if that were the case.

    Look at picture #5
You can see the adhesive over the letters GA

That's glue or something. Not a strike through.

    I'm certainly not a circuit-board expert,
but it looks like some type of tape to me.

Put some acetone on a Q-tip, and it should come
    off immediately

It is a struck through and it a circuit board you can tell by looking at a angle and under a microscope you can see wires sticking up. Some oof the photo show. This

    Thanks \\\

    Pretty sure that’s just tape.

This is not a circuit board
Just the adhesive of a sticker or something. Tape, most likely.

Dearborn Above average collector - Is that an Error?

I have never seen a circuit board that would have squares holes (they would be round) in it laid out in a grid like this. Also I do not see any evidence of the copper foil circuit runners that could connect chips, resistors, and such on this.
I am an expert on circuit boards, I was educated at DeVry Institute for Electronics. Graduated with a GPA of 4.0.
It looks like an adhesive of some sort to me.
