So let's have a New Year's resolution to cut out all the Ebay crap (that means you two Ebay cop guys). As respects matters numismatic, what are your 2010 market projections? I say it is all about GOLD, and that we will see more record highs that will lift the rare coin market if (a big little word) the economy does not take a downturn. What say thee?
mbt: Thou art dreaming to tarry to think that resolution will last a full day on CT! And eBay Inc. will continue to rise in 2010 based on economy and jobs situation.
eBay is here to stay for now. Although I have a love/hate relationship with them – hate the way they gouge on fees, since they’re the leader and love the way they allow one to enter the market with little or no overhead. As for gold, true a rise in price generally affects the whole hobby in a positive way. But, since I live by the axiom, buy low, sell high, I sold much of my gold high a month ago. One key to reaping better profits is don’t get greedy, thinking the market will always climb, it won’t. Will gold go higher, maybe, as long as the dollar stays weak, but, the dollar won’t stay weak for ever either. I’m more than happy with the profit I realized and have moved those profits to other areas that haven’t been “played” yet, so I bought low.
I'm going to take wild guess, and say that key and semi-key Morgan dollars in VF-AU grades will do well this year. I also feel the key date Lincoln cents will hold their own for most of this year before they start to come back to reasonable prices once again.
MBT- I would hazard a wild guess and say ebay accounts for half the CT members most expensive holdings, that's why there's so much ebay chatter. I don't know who the cops are, can you ID them? I believe the economy is at least 2 years from the bottom. Thus non essentials (coins) will not fare well.
I believe the coin market will bottom out in the first third of the year. The coin market is already showing signs of recovery. Gold has reached its peak, and as the economy recovers gold will go back down. Classic, attractive coins in original condition, properly or conservatively graded, will go wild this year - specifically Walkers, Mercs, and Morgan's. The toned coin market is going to continue to cool; and the Franklin market is hopefully going to bottom out this year, but I'm not hopeful. Franklin's fell off a plateau last year, or rather, they nosedived off a cliff.
I think that the economy will grow more dim when people start to get their checks and they are missing 8% to 10% to buy the insurance they will be forced to buy, and gold will soon start to climb again as the government continues to invent more money. I also think it would serve eBay right if some company would come along and take the coin and currency business away from them. EBay needs better competition to get them in line, otherwise, I think the business is there for the taking if somebody comes up with the right internet business structure that collectors like.
I think we will see many more submissions of error coins and DMPL morgans. How this will affect the makret I am unsure, but I do believe the coin market will balance out by july 2010 IMO. As for ebay I continue to support the lawsuit being pressed against them.
Since you asked, Big... Since you asked, I say "YOU are the one who keeps on bringing up 'ebay' and 'ebay cops.' " Let's see how you do in 2010, Big. Me? I'll sing Kumbaya with you.
"This forum is dedicated to U S Coins not Ebay. 2010 Rare Coin Market Projections. " "I say it's all about GOLD". You mention no specific U.S. Coins....shouldn't a thread about GOLD be in the BULLION forum???
As long as you are complaining about non-topic related posts in a specific forum, why don't you put your bullion investing posts in the Bullion section?
I'll agree. It's dropped $1.50 in the last 3 weeks and is around $22.25, but I can see their stock climbing if we can keep the thin ice we are on from breaking. Looking at the stock in the last year, I wish I had bought some of it a year ago come March when it was $10, of course that was a great time to buy just about any stock. Gold . . . she's gonna keep slowly climbing . . . don't see any reason why it wouldn't continue to climb as of right now.
