Would I be better off buying my Silver Eagles certified or uncertified? Social Security old man budget so I am not worried about the long term. LOL I just enjoy my coin collecting. A little of everything if it is silver. Would I be better off buying Morgan or Peace dollars in about the same price range as the Eagles? Just trying to be frugal before the wifey of 52 years now has to put those two silver dollars over my eyes like they did in the old days. LOL I just try to keep a running total of the value of my collection. Just thought I would add a pic of one of my Morgans. Man, I need to get a life. LOL

physics-fan3.14 You got any more of them.... prooflikes?

So, you've got two questions here:

    1. I don't see the point in buying certified eagles unless you're trying to play the Registry game. If that's the case, you need to buy MS-70's to play. Based on what I know of your collecting style and budget, this is not something you are interested in. I'd say, for what you like, you're far better off buying raw eagles and enjoying your coins.

    2. The choice to buy Morgans and Peace dollars instead of eagles is entirely up to you. I personally would go for the old dollars because I find them more interesting than eagles, and the history and story of them is more interesting. But that is entirely my choice! Decent Morgan and Peace dollars are usually going to run $40 for UNC common dates, and I think eagles are only a bit less than that. If your concern is liquidating them at some point in the future, it might be easier to sell eagles in bulk since they are standard and uniform, as opposed to the unique character of each Morgan dollar.

Wrong time to jump into morgan and peace dollars graded as the prices have jumped 100% to 150% in last few months with the best time to buy was before the end of march...raw on the other hand you can still find bargains from reputable dealers.

IMO regarding ASE buy 69's or Raw as 70's trying to unload them getting a minimum of what you paid for them can be a challenge .

Cannot tell naked eye wise the difference between a 69 or 70 so why pay 3x to 5x more?

I have purchased rolls of regular ASE’s from my dealer on a number of occasions. Do dealers typically market regular strike ASE’s individually? I bet Gunner could pick those up at a decent price if they do. I know he likes the proof strikes, but regular ASE’s are a pretty decent looking piece.

Everything U.S. is rising from what i can tell. Either if you want it buy it.

I just had a dealer about 2 years ago that slabbed eagles were the worst investment he ever made. Has boxes of them now just hopes his daughter benefits from them some day.
