LordM Giveaway #60 (Autumn Equinox celebration)

This contest is now CLOSED. The winner was announced in Post #74.

This giveaway is brought to you by Sara, from our last foster kitten batch. She is now called "Cleo", and lives with my father and stepmother. She's got some of that multicolored thing going on, and looked good sitting in Ladymarcovan's fake fall foliage centerpiece from last year.

Well, folks, if you're in the Northern Hemisphere, Autumn has nearly arrived!

Let me tell you, I've been counting the weeks since back in June! I do not care for the steamy summers here in Coastal Georgia.

This is an "instant" giveaway, meaning it will last only a bit over 24 hours. It will be decided by a random drawing as soon as the fall equinox has arrived, which is to say after 3:21 PM Eastern US time tomorrow, Wednesday, September 22, 2021.

To enter, post the words “entry post” and something fall-related.

(Multiple chat posts are fine, but only one entry post per contestant.)

If you have a coin or medal with trees or leaves on it, great! Otherwise, lets see some original fall pictures you took yourself, or a story, or something about your favorite fall recipe(s). Whatever. You get the idea. Let's celebrate the coming of fall. I'm so glad it is here, even though it will probably continue to be "run the AC" weather here for some time to come.

    Wait, was I rambling again?

    Oh yeah. Prizes?

There is one prize lot, consisting of two coins. They are of fairly modest monetary value, but both are old, and silver. And free, to whomever wins this contest! :)

The first is an 1887 "Jubilee Head" British threepence of Queen Victoria, Numista-5838. It is a reasonably decent circulated example.

The second is a 1928 United States Standing Liberty quarter, Numista-3573. It is in low grade and has somewhat mottled toning, but hey, it's a free Standing Liberty quarter, right?

We don't get much in the way of colorful fall foliage here in the Golden Isles, as our live oaks and palmettos are evergreen. So share some pictures of fall color in your area, if you have any.

LOVE the lake pic! I love lakes and I love fall!

The way those pics are stacked, it looks like the dying flower is behind a low wall, with the lake right on the other side!

Brilliant! I'd never heard of a wattle tree, but it's certainly pretty to look at. Any scent to the blooms?

ENTRY POST what i love about the fall is the crispness in the air, the falling leaves scratching along the ground, as they fall non stop, the colours of all the foliage,,,,,,,,

  8. Well with only 2 entries should be pretty easy to pick a winner. Just toss one of those coins

I think that Standing Liberty needs some acetone, but I don't have any. I wouldn't strip-clean it- I'd try to leave the brownish original toning intact- but would try to see if acetone would remove the slight greenish hazy areas (which is hopefully not PVC). I think it might benefit from that, but I won't tinker with it myself.

True, since you chose not to enter?

Oh, and we have three so far. ;)

But we've got a bit over 24 hours to go. It won't be a big pool for the drawing, so I reckon everyone's got a solid chance.

Fall has always been my favorite season, likely because of the new football season, deer hunting and the colors (especially the reds of maples and sumac). And, of course, the harvest from the garden. BTW, the smallest dark berries are Aronia.

Not to get maudlin, but I’ve often expressed my desire to die in the fall (but not THIS fall).

I had to Google "Aronia". Interesting. Are they tart?

VERY tart. As they are purportedly extremely high in anti-oxidants, I guess Mother Nature is telling us there's no free lunch.

Ah, yes! The coming of fall. The crispness in the air. The leaves turning. What a wonderful time to be in South Florida!

Ah, Autumn. All along the Mediterranean coast the palms are changing from green to green. Seriously, we know it is approaching Autumn because there is 2 hours less sunshine per day and the temperature drops into the high 20'sC
