Another thread here brought up the idea of trading coins here, and I thought it might be a good idea to start a new thread where people can discuss what they want to trade, and what they have to offer.

Here's what I want: mint sets, some Merc dime dates, some Lincoln dates (wheats)

Here's what I got: Mercury dimes, if you need a specific date, let me know and I'll look for it....and many world coins, mostly low value.

Chrysta - I have a few mercs and lots of wheats. My Dad just recently died and he had been making lots of penny collections for all of his great grandchildren for Christmas. He had a lot left over and my Mom just counted them out and split them between us kids. Most of them I believe are 40's and 50's. Anyway, if I can ever get off this computer, was going to try to sort some of them tonite. They are circulated.

Not as many duplicate mercs, but do have a few I would love to trade for those I need- also circulated. Do you have any duplicates on those - maybe we can work out a trade.

I will start working on my list - may take me awhile to sort, etc. if not interested in circulated - that's OK too.

edited to fix another darn typo! :)

Thanks Bullion. It was a rough time. Both of my parents were in ICU - incubated one right after the other - Mom first, and she barely made it. Then Dad went in the day before she got out. Both were in 2 wks. I still miss him terribly. Guess that is something that you never get over.

Dad worked on those penny collections for his all of his grandkids and DID get them finished in time for last Christmas. These wheats are just extras that he didn't need. Dad got us into collecting coins at a very early age. Thanks to him, I am now enjoying the hobby. I am very lucky to have had such a great Dad.

If anyone else is interested, I also have some silver dimes and a few silver quarters to trade as well for other dates of same. Also would like to trade some uncirc. Indiana quarters (singles) for other date state quarters - mostly P that I can never find. Grandkids just got the Ds in their collections that I gave them.

Sorry to hear of your Father's passing Neptune, I lost mine at a young age also. Will say a special prayer line for you this morning. I have quite a bit of trading material mostly Washington Quarters, Franklin Halves, a few mercs including some keys and other misc coins. Chrysta I don't know what you teach but I have 30 or 40 dollar size historical medals depicting scenes from the american revolution to the early 1900's. These are great for hands on teaching projects. Or if they are of any interest to others. Let me know if you are interested and I will try and put a list together with a couple of pics for email.

Thanks Jess. I like your little angel. I made a memorial website for Dad when he passed.

You didn't mention what your wish list is - ie. what do you want to trade FOR? :)

    :)

Thanks Jess, they sound neat! I teach British Literature though, so I guess it doesn't really fit  . Now if you have any King Arthur coins/medals....

Neptune, I am also sorry to hear about your father. I got your PM before I saw this.

I will post a separate post here with the Lincoln and Mercury dates I have and need. My Mercuries and Lincolns are mostly circulated too, so that's no problem!

Allow me to commiserate here. I lost both of my parents recently. It is hardly an unexpected event, and they both lived longer than they thought they would when they got married, but it is always hard on you to see someone take that voyage.

    That said...

You know that you can find Cnut pennies and Ethelbards and the Dublin Vikings and all right up to Dickens on a Banknote. You spend your money on US Coins by choice. In my junk box, I have a couple of Elizabeth I shillings that someone holed. They were pretty cheap to me and not worth much even on eBay, but they are certainly a tanglible link to Shakespeare when I am in front of eighth graders.

In fact, I replenished my junk bag, a plastic baggie with old coins that I use in school sometimes, with 10 oldies, including 4 Elizabeth II nickel "two shillings" at 25 cents each. Being from 1958, the kids will find them positively medieval.

You ought to think about branching out a bit. Those American coins will always be there. They are not going away. Sip a little Earl Grey, have a scone. It's four o'clock, my dear.

Well I don't know about anyone else, but being semi-new, just starting "again" to collect coins, I find that I am overwhelmed with the knowledge needed to collect US Coins alone. And I will continue to learn, and try to learn that well, before I attempt any other countries. At this point in time, foreign coins just don't interest me at all. Each to their own, however. because each person has individual interests. I do love and drink a lot of herbal tea, and Grey is a nice brand.

Sorry about the loss of both of your parents. I am sure that was quite hard. Even though we know that it's going to happen "someday", it is still not an easy thing to face in life. It also brings your own mortality to light, and makes you think more about your own life as well. Happy holidays to everyone.
