haveing a great day at market today got this 2003 dollar with nice tone for 15 euros then i got two quarters 1940 with a dye crack and a nice 1961 both for 5 euros. What do you think Dave
You will have to understand I am not up on the value of the euro, I know the few prices I know by us $, a good price for the silver eagle could be anywhere from 19.50 to 24, last I heard if the euro was 1.30 to the 1$ then it was a good deal/steal, I am not up on the washington prices, if you want I could dig up the NN and check their prices.
thanks chip that would be great as i wount be home for a few hour's yet. The rate for the $ to euro is about 1.44 so 15 =$21.50 Dave
THE Numismatic news price guide that is a bit more comprehensive has been tossed, the weekly one did not list the specific washingtons, but had the generic prices which were a bit over junk silver prices up to about xf. I have seen 1940 washingtons advertised from anywhere to 5 to 8 usd. Numismatic news prices I have found to be high usually.
Yeah me too. Hate to tell you but those really look like a scratch. Me too not aware of what a Euro thing is worth in our money. It is pretty good though that you could find US coins in Ireland. Glad you did and I'd say from where you are any for those prices is OK.
dount do this very much. i have the coin in hand and they are way to deep to be scratches .now i may be wrong with saying it was a dye crack but a few scratches. it is late here as the time is 1.10 am and i am up since 7.30 am so if more pics are needed i will do them in the morning but when the reverse looks like it is going to break in four it may be from wear it looks week but the looking at the coin in hand it looks like a strong strike but we can talk tomorow dave
I agree....they do look like scratches. But then again, the OP states they are too deep. Looking at it a few times, could they really be scratches (most likely, but they ARE looking pretty deep..deeper than an 'average' scratch)? There's no way it could be a defective planchet...if that particular planchet was 'quartered', as it appears, the force of the press would have blown that apart.
Here is a nice post that shows what a die crack looks like: http://www.cointalk.com/t71553/ Although the term is called a crack, the coin itself is not cracking or scratched. Notice how, instead of a scratch digging into the surface of the coin, the die crack is raised above the surface.
Nice pickups, but the '40-D is definitely scratched, like Insomniac said, a die crack would be raised.
Not a bad day at the market...at least you got a lot of silver at a descent price. BTW, love the avatar -LTB
guys you more than likey right but this coin is not what you say broken dye i dont know it is not a scratch I am willingt to give doug the coin or steave .just let me know dave
