What is a fair buy price for 2006-W (3 Coin) Silver Eagle Set - 3-piece Set with Box & COA Special 20th Anniversary Silver American Eagle set with original box and certificate of authenticity? How many of these set were sold? Is it a good investment if purchased for $329.00 including sh/h?

    Thanks

I haven't looked up the prices in a few months, but in the fall they were selling for $250 to $275 for the set.

That seems to be a good price for the lot

There was a maximum mintage allowed at 250,000 sets. 248,875 were sold.

I haven't checked the prices since selling mine in 2007 but I just did an ebay completed listing search and see they've come down a bit. I believe you can do better than the price you quoted.

I just checked eBay and it seems $325.00 is the asking price for this set.

    Thanks.

I thought that all the sets sold out???? If not, I call dibs.....I want to buy the rest. ;):D

You can find these for around $275-300. I wouldn't pay much more than $300 because with a little patience, you can find the set for less. Good luck.

And if you buy this set, buy it because you like it. Don't buy the set as an investment. Bad move.....

not necessarily, mpcusa and this is only the first example that came to my mind.

3 cent pieces are by today's standards rare, but nobody collects them and so the prices remain low as they have for years

  11. I think that price is a little bit on the high end, and you can get it for around $300 or less if you check around. It is hard to predict whether this set is a good investment but my guess is no. It was definitely a good investment if you were lucky enough to get it from the mint at issue price. The set is a beauty. I love the ASE design, but especially that reverse proof (which is the only coin in the set truly with the 450,000 mintage). TC

Any idea if this set will increase in value? I've been collecting proof ASE since 1986 but have not bought the special issues. I like the set but if increase in value isn't going to happen I'll just spend the money on ASEs. Which other special issue ASEs are highly desirable?

Of course you have the 1995w proof which is out of most people price ranges at around $2500 or higher. Then next "key" ASE would be the 2008W/2007Rev burnished UNC. You can find these for around $250 raw and higher if they are slabbed. THe 1993, 1995 and 1997 proofs are going for in the $125-150 range. The 1994 proof is going for a bit higher. The 2006 rev proof goes for around $150 or higher. These are all the higher priced ASEs.

midas, if we knew what was going to go up or down, we'd all make a fortune in this business and none that I know of are doing that, so I wouldn't expect and answer that you can rely upon.

The other really desirable ASE (as jaceravone has now mentioned) is the 1995-W proof, but if you think that $300 may be a gamble, then $2500 is definitely not something to dabble in

    ". . . THe 1993, 1995 and 1997 proofs are going for in the $125-150 range. The 1994 proof is going for a bit higher. . ."

I've been buying two proof ASEs every year since 1986. It didn't occur to me to buy the special issues ASEs. Never bought any of the special issues or the 1995w. Was the 1995w part of a set? The mintage for the 2006w set seems a bit high, so I might pass on it.
    Thanks for all the information.
