And I'm puzzled. I've read about them, but this is my first one. And maybe I wasn't paying much attention to the discussions about them. The only reason I bought it at this auction was because it was the year I graduated high school.

So what's the deal with the red and blue packaging? And should I keep the coins like that or is it okay to break them out and put the coins in 2x2s?

Usually it is red for Denver and blue for Philadelphia. I'm not sure why it was chosen to be that way.

As far as taking them out, it is up to you. Many people like to keep the sets in the original packaging but plenty of others take them out for albums or other storage methods.

Ah yes, I seem to have neglected that vital piece of info. I wanted to commemorate the end of my compulsory public schooling in 1970.

The 1970 mint set is one of the worst for tarnishing. It is probably for the best to remove the coins and soak them in 91% isopropyl or acetone.

It's a great date though and contains several very interesting coins.

At least 1970 was a good year for the Kennedy half.

I'm nine years older than dirt, does that make me the oldest? I don't know, maybe, perhaps, yep it does...

I guess that makes you the oldest, since I invented dirt!

I was wondering where all the dirt came from that my mother said was behind my ears.
