Hi guys, new to the forum (obviously ), Anyway, I've recently run across four 1 troy ounce silver coins while cleaning out some old boxes of family items. All four coins do not have dates or markings which would indicate which mint they are from, but they look much more like something that the US Mint would issue, rather than a commemorative coin or something similar produced by a 3rd party coin company. All four feature an image of what I am guessing is Lady Liberty's head surrounded by stars and the familiar "E Pluribus Unum". The backs of three of the coins feature a scale and other designs as you can see in the image below. However, one of the coins, whilst having the same front, features an eagle on the back (not like the design of the Silver Proof Coin currently listed on the US Mint's website). I've checked out the Mint's page of coins, but nothing seems to match up. I'm not necessarily curious about how much they're worth (I'd assume it's the normal value an ounce of silver would get), but I'd really like to know what exactly I have. Are they made by the US Mint or not? Please see the attached pictures and thank you so much in advance! I know nothing about coins, of course, but you guys seem to be coin geniuses.
Those are silver rounds. Not a U.S. mint product. They come in all kinds of designs from many different private mints. Worth their weight in silver. http://www.coin-rare.com/silver-bullion-rounds-silver-dollar-design.aspx
1.00 XAG = 18.4100 USD This is the spot price of a silver ounce as per the time I post this. And I concur with the following posters, that those are Bullion Rounds and do come from many different mints. Hope the spot price of silver will brighten your day as silver is soaring pretty high these days as apposed to the 90's. Just over $18 an ounce isn't to bad of a find in an old box (kind of like finding a forgotten $50 Bill )
Wow, guys, thanks so much! I wasn't expecting such fast replies at all! Glad to know they aren't from the US Mint as they aren't in the greatest shape and I'd feel terrible about letting a real US Mint product get into such a state I'm thinking I'll stick around here as I've just found some more coins. Not only are you guys incredibly kind, you're all very knowledgeable. Thanks again!!
