My first Augustus Caesar coin delivered today. Obverse could be better but Reverse is nice. Less than 90.00.. Not too bad I think
A classic! Congratulations on this historical new addition to your numophylacium! These often have rough surfaces. Here's mine. Divus Augustus, 27 BC - 14 AD. Roman Æ as, 9.30 g, 28.4 mm, 7 h. Rome, issued under Tiberius, AD 22-30. Obv: DIVVS·AVGVSTVS·PATER, head of Augustus, radiate, left. Rev: PROVIDENT S C, Altar-enclosure with double paneled door; surmounted by uncertain ornaments. Refs: RIC 81; BMCRE 146; Cohen (Augustus) 228; RCV 1789.
Augustus As Divus Ae As Minted by Tiberius 22-23 AD Rome Obv Head left radiate. Rv Altar RIC 81 11.55 grms 28 mm Photo by W. Hansen This coin was among the first "Divus" coins minted for Augustus and is part of a rather large complicated issue of aes minted by Tiberius. The principle aim of this aes coinage was to link the reign and policies of Tiberius to that of his predecessor Augustus. It also represents a very early example of Roman Imperial propaganda being disseminated using the aes coinage.
Excellent coin... not one I own yet - but someday! I was gifted this restitution issue of Augustus. One of the nicest gifts I have ever received.
