Double Die I know just enough to be dangerous

Here is a 1913 LWC that is like no other coin I've seen. I'm not sure if it's just damage or if this is something special?

And that is where you all come in. What is this? I know it's well worn with 108 years of handling, but give it your best shot. 20210917_122734.jpg 20210917_122653.jpg 20210917_122558.jpg 20210917_122524.jpg 20210917_122433.jpg 20210917_122344.jpg

What exactly caused this? Only the person(s) and the coin itself will ever know but it’s Just plain damaged.

Maybe in the ground for an extended period of time? I think it is some kind of environmental damage!!!
