Picked this out of a dealer's bulk Morgans yesterday. I liked the reverse die break (Star to ONe). But, something is strange about the coin. No signs of cleaning, even under magnification. But the surface has a satin finish. Any idea what would cause that?
Ive seen bad cleanings where the cleaning agent wasn't properly rinsed off yield this type of patina. My guess is improperly cleaned.
Seems to me the obvious halos around all the devices, obverse and reverse, are a strong sign that it's been cleaned.
If you take more photos out of the 2x2, please take them of the full coin from directly overhead. Taking a photo at even the slightest angle can change the appearance.
