Picked this out of a dealer's bulk Morgans yesterday. I liked the reverse die break (Star to ONe). But, something is strange about the coin.

No signs of cleaning, even under magnification. But the surface has a satin finish. Any idea what would cause that?

Can you take pics with it out of the holder?

Ive seen bad cleanings where the cleaning agent wasn't properly rinsed off yield this type of patina. My guess is improperly cleaned.

    nice die break.

In the holder hard to say, but looks like probably cleaned.

Seems to me the obvious halos around all the devices, obverse and reverse, are a strong sign that it's been cleaned.

Appears to have been dipped, but can't really tell from your photos.

If you take more photos out of the 2x2, please take them of the full coin from directly overhead. Taking a photo at even the slightest angle can change the appearance.

Dipped to long or cleaned will cause that look. Nice die crack.

The coin is harshly mechanically cleaned.
