had this for a little while....my failed success keeps me aprehensive about posting..i hate to bothering anyo . however im prtty sure this has doubling all over
Hello. Can you start off asking whether or not we think the coin has a certain Error . Since at the bottom you point out something about doubling , I concur, yes doubling, BUT MD or Machine doubling ( No Added Value). Thanks .
I don't think you realize how low your chances of finding a 1969 s penny are. You would have to search about 20,000 penny rolls of only 1969 s pennies to find a real 1969 s DDO. The one you have is MD and in a 1969 s DDO the doubling is waaay more pronounced and obvious. You would know if you have one. And posting pictures in gray isnt neccesary either.
Michael, Don't be apprehensive about posting questions. Answering questions is what we do here. Your question is totally legit! People get cranky when posters don't learn anything from the answers they get. If you don't ask questions, learning about coins will be a slow road! It is no bother to anyone.
@bearddigger ... thank you..and all the other folks that chime in as well. moving im interested in posting maybe a dozen or so... pics..of different lmc i that think are doubled...(which obviously are probably not would it be okay to do this... and what forum...?
69S cents are rampant in MD and the effect on the S mint mark is interesting to possibly collect. No extra value though. It appears to have "jerked" 4 times. Jim
There must have been something shady going on down at the mint if this specific year and mint had a rampant issue. I can just imagine it, San Francisco mint, they were blasting the Beatles White album while they were working, thus not paying any real attention to their job or what was going on with the equipment.
The following sites have extensive listings of doubled dies. Spend some time seeing if you can find an exact match http://varietyvista.com/ https://www.doubleddie.com/ Wexler also some great information on the characteristics of worthless mechanical and die deterioration doubling. There are many, many MD and DDD coins out there but very few hub doubled varieties. Take the time to study and learn the differences. https://www.doubleddie.com/144801.html
