Hi, m8s! Can somebody identify this coin. I posted these photos in several forums, but nobody could identify it. There were some ideas that it came from Reims region or it is some kind of French denier. Non Magnetic Diameter 17x19 mm Weight 0.74 g Thanks in advance.
Looks to be Anglo-Saxon(Circa 715-750). Edit: Upon closer look, perhaps not, but it does resemble this type:
I was talking with the guy who is very familiar with Herstal type sceats. He said that he is sure it is not of that type of coins.
Searching further, perhaps Flanders(shot-in-the-dark)? If so, Reims(Northern France), at the least; may have you looking in the correct geographical region. GL w/ your search. Perhaps, others here may have more familiarity.
Definitely medieval - Anglo Saxon stycas are smaller and thicker. Style seems wrong for Reims - see http://lesmonnaieschampenoises.free.fr/reims.htm# The thin flan and squarish cut seems to suggest the Friesacher pfennigs of Southern Germany or Austria - 13th-14th centuries. Again, a very rough guess...
Honestly, it looks like nothing I've ever seen. You could add petits deniers (NE Fance) and issues of Deols (both c. 12th c.) to the pile of things that can provisionally be ruled out as obvious candidates. Weirdness.
This is a 'tessera mercantile' possibly cast for use in the city of Jaffa late 12th to early 13th century. Notice the obverse design with the cross enclosed in the Magen David: But this is cast in lead, yours looks silver-billon.
