While cataloging my small size tonight..I am just on the $5s...I came across a note I bought a while back...according to the New 9th Edition of Schwartz/Lindquist Small -Size U.S. Paper Money 1928 to Date, they list the Series 1928A $5 Richmond note at a low number of E06887809A Check out this note's SN...can it be?? note from the RickieB Collection RickieB
Nice find Ricky. Make sure you send a scan to them, so they can list the new #. It's amazing you posted this, you're timing is awesome. I just acquired this 1934B $10 Boston note and when I checked the book, the low # listed is A38659831B, look at the # on mine...
WOW.. that is really close..what odds do you place on finding who has the 1 digit lower note for sale? I would say not too high..but sooner or later all notes will see the market if they are extant. We are but tenders to the flock so to speak.. Nice note, I like the 34 B "Vinson" sig..I need that in a NY Note as well.. RickieB
Why did you take it out of the holder?? Their collection was pretty broad if I remember correctly. RickieB
pennywise: I did send an email to Scott Lindquist including the scan..have not heard back yet and do not expect to until sometime this coming week. Just think about the odds of having notes with corresponding SNs high or low from a published works like his book. Can you imagine having a collection of all high and low numbered notes? WOW what would that take to complete?? I think I will stay with the challenge I have set forth for myself..I have a much better chance of realizing it that way...it is nice to now have 3 notes listed as low or high sn notes in that published work. RickieB
Funny thing is, I was bidding on another note this past week, that had a higher # than listed in the guide, but was outbid. I think I will have to look closer at all the notes i'm chasing and do a little more cherrypicking! Good luck to you Rickie.
Thanks Pennywise, and best of searching luck to you as well. What I find unusual is that the note I posted in this thread http://www.cointalk.com/t87547/ this exact note has sold 3 times at Heritage since 2005. The ironic part of it is that it is the only Graded note at PCGS in this Grade and I have only found 1 other note in AU that is reported. So when you have a note like this, why in the World would you put it back on the market? It is listed as the High number in S/L 9th and I am sure preceding editions. This note sold for $805 in 2006 and just recently at F.U.N. for $500..why in the World did this person put it back on the market in a soft market at that and take $300 loss? This will be a significant note one day (or at least I think so). Take a look at the population census for this note and see what you can find. Another member Jamericon, a well respected member of SPMC and a very knowledgeable guy in small size notes commented on my Thread. I have searched everywhere I know of to try an find more of these notes and still come up dry. So again I ask why put this on the market? It was not even sold in the main auction event, it was sold as "post auction buy's " on Heritage... Man, I just don't see why? It took all of 10 seconds to see this was a scarce note and a high SN, perhaps even the low sn for this Series of $5 Star. Explain that one to me? RickieB
All good questions Rickie, but we can only speculate on the answer as to why someone would turn over such a desirable note as this, at a loss. I'm sure the seller hoped to recoup his investment, but may have been after bigger fish, we'll probably never know. I for one, cannot give up anything I have acquired, even after upgrading, I always seem to hang onto the notes I replaced. I believe it is my urge to have it ALL!!!. I need to learn to let go.
You know Pennywise.. one more question I have is what the heck happened to the other 205,570 notes between these numbers?? RickieB
