Well, it looks like we are done with 2002. I'll move us on to 2001 . . . Three BRD 10-mark commemorative coins.

 

I see the good old european currencys are arriving here again. Sadly I dont own anything special for 2001.

Found in a cash register in 2020 by my son.




It is a gold plated state quarter. The state quarters are Cu-Ni clad, copper circulating coins. At first glance it looked quite uncirculated in hand, but a close examination with a loop showed some gold worn off at high points. Interesting that it was in circulation … But in reality the gold plating is so thin that the coin has no intrinsic value.

State quarter dollars, painted or plated with gold or other precious metals, were often heavily marketed as “investment” pieces, because they ostensibly contained a precious metal.
