My friend also has a, and this is a description from a layman... "1817 Half Crown George III Silver Coin". Is this worth anything? Trev
What grade and type though? The value of this coin like all collector coins depends very much on it's condition. Well worn examples of the George III half-crown are very common and are worth about $10.00 US more or less I'd think. Don't hold me to it but I'd venture that extremely fine grade examples of this coin could be worth as much as $300 US or more whereas an UNC could be at least twice as much. Also keep in mind that there were actually two types of this coin minted. The first used in 1816 and in the early part of 1817 had what was considered to be a rather unflattering portrait of George III which brought about a new design later in 1817. From a collector's standpoint I'd imagine the first type would be worth more but I'd love to hear some opinions on this from collectors specializing in British Coins.
