Hello all! So I'm planning on embarking on a mission to build a 19th century type set. I've searched the web looking for a 19th century type FOLDER, however I've only come across 19th century type ALBUMS. My question is.. are there any 19th century type coin FOLDERS out there? Or do they only come in ALBUM format? If there are FOLDERS out there where can I find them? Who manufactures them? Any answers and/or insight is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance! -Tony

Bite the bullet. Get an album. Folders are for cheap stuff.

The Dansco 7070 is the classic, of course- if you can find one- but if I remember correctly, Littleton made a decent looking one a while back?

The 7070 is of course 19th and 20th century. I can't remember if Littleton offered a 19th-century-only option. I think somebody did. The trouble with some of those is that you're then gonna have slots for the tough Draped Bust silver coins, even if the album doesn't go into the gold. Let me tell you from experience- it seems like the smaller the denomination, the tougher the Draped Bust silver is to find.

Last time I did a 19th century (-only) type set, I made my own album. I could perhaps make you one if you wanted to discuss it via PM. This would be based on 20-pocket binder pages, of course- not round ports in cardboard with clear slides.

But I could print the name and date span of each type onto the inserts for each slot and make you a pretty decent looking album fairly cheaply. In fact, once that setup work was done, it would be relatively easy to make one up for anyone else who wanted one.

Folders will damage your coins in the long term and you will have coins fall out of the folder. Albums are a better choice but they will also damage your coins.

2x2 inert safety flips in 20-pocket pages, on the other hand... ;)

Yes. That is even a better option.

there was a Whitman folder that was made decades and decades ago, it was short lived and pretty rare to find in any condition. Whitman #9026, Now it's an #9026 A or B, two folders, Good luck finding any of them though.

You are going to hunt your behind off trying to find either version in decent shape to be honest. the folder A and B versions don't come up often, the all in one, I never see for sale anywhere. and ones that do come up are written in or dogeared.

Probably a Capital 460A would meet your needs but those aren't folders, and aren't cheap either.....

I'd ask if Dansco ever made another print run of any albums I'm not aware of, but I doubt that, so, yeah, a Dansco 7070 might be a bit costly at this point to buy.

The Capitol 460A Holder might be the cheapest way to go on it actually.

Maybe cheapest and only thing really available currently would be a Littleton LCA78

Thanks. That's the one I was thinking of. Seems the best option to me, if you don't wanna go homemade, with flips and pocket pages. Nice looking album, too, and not too expensive.

It frees you from having to pursue a 20th century type set at the same time. But- and this is a big BUT- you'll have to get the tough Draped Bust silver denominations if you are a stickler for completeness!

And by the time you're buying pricey material like Bust dollars and the other Draped Bust silver coins, you really should be looking at a slabbed collection instead, in my opinion, considering the expense and value of the coins involved. That's what I did around the millennium, when I graduated from the Dansco 7070 and completed a slabbed 1798-present (non-gold) type set.

But for some folks who are old-school traditionalists and don't see the need to slab everything, an album like that Littleton LCA78 might be just the thing.

Thanks guys! Lots of good information! Based off of your advice im gonna opt for the Littleton album, and protect the coins further in 2x2s. I am usually a completionist in most endeavors but I've learned with coins that (for me personally atleast) obsessing over completion sucks the joy out of the project, so I'm gonna take it one coin at a time and fill as much as I reasonably can. How do folders damage the coins? If they progressively damage coins over time ill probably opt to replace all my folders with albums with the added protection of 2x2s.

Anyway I'm very much looking forward to kickstarting this project. I've already got a 19th century IHC and V nickel to get the ball rolling. I'll also be in touch with you LordM. I'm currently waiting for roughly $100 of PayPal funds to be taken off hold at which point ill procure a coin or two.. or three.. or four.. or, anyway you get the point :p from your shop.

Thanks again for your help everyone. Its much appreciated! Have a blessed day!

Cheep holders like folders have sulfur and other chemicals in them. They also pose the “coin cam fall out problem.” I have no idea how you could get a folder to hold a Silver Three Cent Piece or get it in the hole. Half dimes have similar problems.

Whitman currently makes a 19th & 20th century album that may work for you. If you check the auctions on ebay for it, not to buy, just to see what pages are included.

I had this folder and it only took a few months to fill it. I only had to buy a few as the rest was already in my possession. Best wishes on getting one and filling it. If you want better grades than mine forget the folder and buy the album.

Thanks! Ya I stopped by the LCS today but I guess they only sell folders, no albums. So I ordered the Littleton 19th century type album a couple of hours ago off of eBay. When (or should I say if... BIG if) I finish putting together the set ill post it here. I'll probably post my progress periodically as well.
And thanks, great movie! Tom Hardys def one of my fav actors. Mad Max, Dark Knight Rises, The Revenant.. hes certainly had some iconic rolls. I'm looking forward to a new Mad Max.. or even a spin off. Its been over half a dozen years since Fury Road was released so I'm hoping its just a matter of time!!
