For the first time since the year 2001, Kennedy halves are making their way into circulation at the order of the federal reserve. VIA Paul Gilkes for CoinWorld. https://www.coinworld.com/news/prec...y-half-dollars-now-being-found-in-circulation Not a new article but new info to me, and likely to some of you.
I'm wondering how many will be posting here about rare Kennedy halves they are finding in circulation with this date after 20 years of not being seen.
Coins are boxed to be used. That’s why the bank gets mad if you get a box, and come back the next day to dump it. And, when you do dump it, you’re tossing them back out there. For circulation. Both the federal reserve and mint have come out and confirmed that the FR is ordering 2021s to be released.
I don’t mind halves. I use them when I can, I have a stack at home the store doesn’t like it though. ‘It’s legal tender’ I say and typically that’s enough for them.
A couple weeks ago there was a thread about the shortage of quarters available at banks, and I surmised that the increased availability of half dollars was because they could make up the shortage of quarters by making change using half dollars whenever possible. Maybe that is why.
What if someone tries to use a $2 bill AND a Kennedy Half to buy a taco or a burger... will the police get a call for attempted use of counterfeit bills and coins!!?!!?
I’m sure you wouldn’t mind carrying a pocket full of Kennedy’s. I wouldnt I like to think the average American is smarter than that. except daily I am pushed to feel otherwise.
