I won this one last week and came in the mail yesterday but I was climbing a Mountain . So just got to open her up. I really like it, nicer than I expected . Though I think its graded correctly though maybe a + could of been in order.
This one is in A old green holder. Maybe the photo quality but coin is 64 PL And very proof like in hand ,
Nice! '82-S in PL condition is not nearly as common as years prior and difficult to come by. Congrats!
I think the PL fields might be throwing off your interpretation of the pictures. PL fields are really hard to capture accurately, and may make the coin look subdued as you describe. In hand, it is probably quite flashy. I agree that it has probably had a bath, being so white, but I don't think its overdipped.
Yes they do, and they are typically found quite nice. Because of that the early S mint Morgans have always been graded based on a tougher standard than the rest of the Morgan series. Myself, while I can't judge PL based on pics, I'd call that one a 63 because of the number of marks and frost breaks. And I suspect others have thought the same which would explain why it is still in that old holder. Over the years the old holders have been picked over so many times that pretty much all of those thought worthy of an upgrade were resubmitted years ago. While those thought unworthy of upgrade have been left as they are as a potential sales incentive for those who don't know all of this.
MS-62. Obverse good, reverse better. Gauges above eye, bag marks with small gauge on neck, dipped and cleaned. All Morgan's are keepers, yours is no exception, very nice. Thanks for sharing.
This coin is MS-64 PL I think the photos are having a tough time bringing out the Proof like part but it’s a very nice coin and highly reflective
And some of the LARGEST S-mint marks. This one is above-average...maybe med-large...but not the largest. I have a few with the S being nearly 3/4 the size of the ONE DOLLAR font directly below...have always been surprised there isn't a variety-VAM for the X-LARGE S mint marks, mostly on those 80-82 years...or maybe also for those small S mint marks (and maybe there is for those).
