    Inspired

All this talk about dozens of Franklins and Walking Liberties inspired me to search another box of halves. Better than I had been finding lately, but nothing to get too excited over:

    1x66
    2x67
    1x69

    Four 40%

It really is the occasional Franklin or Walker that keeps me looking. Haven't found any of those in boxes since mid-November.

    -David

P.S. I'm not surprised, Bob, that they wanted to keep the coins. They ought to hide them a little better though.
    On a similar note...
It is probably not surprising to most, but when I occasionally visit the local coin shop, visitors coming in to sell stuff to the coin dealer outnumber paying customers at least 3 or 4 to 1. Well, I'm in there the other day and this guy comes in with a butt-load of coins in various denominations - wheats, buffaloes, V nickels, and silver quarters and dimes. I could tell from his conversation with the dealer that he was a regular seller. After he left, I asked the dealer where the heck this guy got all his coins. The dealer said, "Oh, that guys sees millions of $ in coins everyday. He works for BRINKS!!!"

SO - that may explain why it is not so easy sometimes to find coins from Brinks boxes. The Brinks employees apparently have some vision on the coins as they count them or something - and have access, like tellers, to withdraw whatever good coins they see.
Instead of being coinophiles (if that's a word), like us, this guy just hauls them down to the dealer and wholesales them.
Maybe I need to apply to Brinks....

Finished a box of half dollars last night. I was worried as several rolls had green marks on them from another searcher I am sure of. In total 45 coins had a green spot on them from a sharpie. We ended up with 5 40% coins this box.

    Searched another $5 of pennies:
    I got the following

    1952 D
    1 LP4
    1 1972 D ddo
    9 1995 D ddo

Also how much is the 1995 D DDO worth?

Cant beat that I have to check the rest for double dies.
It was only about 10% copper though

Also went through $4 in loose halves
    1968
    1969

Great news is since you guys have been talking about brinks and coinstar, and I have friends who work there but dont collect, so I called them up and they said they would give em anything they find. face value for face value
Jeez this is gunna be sweet

Not too shabby ;-) 2 V nickels across just 12 boxes (were they in the same box by chance?). I've gone through 30 boxes and have only found 1 and I thought I was doing slightly better than average with that find.

Just signed up here a few days ago, but I think I did OK today for a beginner. Went to a bank with a free coin counting machine to dump 2 boxes of pennies I searched. Took the receipt to the counter and asked if they had any "silver" dollars (meaning Ike's). The 20-something teller said no, but how about silver quarters. Figuring she wasn't going where I wished she was, I asked what are silver quarters. She said (naturally) quarters made before '65. Of course I said I'll take them, and she proceeded to count out $60 worth of 1964 and 1964D quarters for me, generally in very nice condition. Apparently, yesterday someone tried to pass them through the machine, which rejects silver coins, so the person deposited them at the counter. The teller was very happy to get rid of them. 240 quarters at 0.18084 ounces of silver per coin equals 43.4 ounces of silver at $18.39 per ounce close today...needless to say I am a very happy camper tonight!

Welcome new folks. I wish I could find that many silver coins from a teller. Tellers generally hoard that stuff for themselves. I did get a teller to give me a single, worn 1961 quarter once...

About the nickels -technically, my Vs didn't come from a "box," I guess. About two of my "boxes" were $100 in customer wrapped coins that I put in box to transport home. My Vs both came from customer wrapped rolls, as did at least two of my buffaloes.

With my kids, I completed a box of pennies today.
    Only four wheats...
    2x56d
    1x52d
    1x27d in AG condition...

    1x70 CDN

    About 12-13% copper

    Wow Jeff, that is incredible.

I searched a box of halves today, found one 1964. Also searched one roll of customer rolled halves, and found 2 40%ers.

I'd say that counts as a box in my book. WF will sometime assemble a box for me from customer wrapped rolls and the plastic sausage rolls. Nice finds.

Did better than my average in most areas
    Got 7 wheaties:
    1944 S
    1956 D
    4 1957 D
    1958 D AU

    Also got
    1 log cabbin
    1 1969 S
    1 1968 S

    and 1960 Small date

Decided to save and take out all 1968 and 1969 S from circulation, if you got any to donate I would be happy to take them.

On a major side note this box was about 27-28% copper, never had that before

I hope your all keeping your copper..
I have several of these sacks.. About 50-60lbs each.
Copper prices make them worth keeping and I have to search them still..
I might even have the searching part done by the time I die... Might.
I have a hard time getting rid of anything.. until I know .. KNOW that I am not letting go a treasure.. and I am still learning.

Also does anyone think this searching might be a form of OCD?
I went through 2400 Bills in my Currency search and over 5000 Pennies
And Whatever in Odd Rolls and Halves.. ALL THIS WEEK. I see Coins in my sleep..Serial Numbers.. Always being so focused on details?
    Just a thought..
Back to the search... where is my coffee!

Yup I keep the coppers have about 1700 lbs give or take.

Some figures below are more accurate than others but most are rough figures
    I also have about
    12700 1969 S
    11000 wheaties
    250 1968 S
    31 1960-d Small date
    1 1960 small date

    Nickel wise:
    17 V nickels
46 bufallos most are aprtial or no date
    345 silver war nickels

    Dimes:
    400 mercury
    570 rosies

    quarters:
    53 silver washingtons
    140 1976 bicentenial

    Halves:
    620 90% kennedy and franklins
    2000 40%

    dollars:
    92 eisenhowers
    7 SBA
    14 peace dollars
    82 morgans

Thats all from the banks or circulation finds, I like to keep business seperate from pleasure even though both are coins.
As for the OCD, I think the proper term is RSS (Roll searching syndrome) AKA genius.
Have fun with all that copper but its easier if you look mainly for dates and then check them for errors or varities etc.

All great finds.. At face value is like modern gold panning.. Hands still get dirty but much less work..
I need to organize a bit better.. I keep telling myself that but am always adding to the piles..
I did search a box or two of Dimes.. Never found anything good.. may try that again..
I also found a guy with OBW rolls.. Just got 3 in the mail.. 1961D.. Searched one roll so far....
    4x Different RPM's and 2x D over Horizontal D...
I can't wait to search the next rolls today at work.. It is rare to find real OBW rolls from the 40's-80's ..
PM me if you want his info.. If your looking for Varieties or nice rolls.. I love this guy!! Very happy with him so far,
