I last found one in 1998. I remember it like it was yesterday. I was collecting money from a contract employee, and there it was. Perhaps it was the fact that my coworkers reacted "Yeah, and ... ?" to my excitement.
I went to a bank and got like 5 rolls of Ocean View nickels, all 2005-P. I'm giving them away to people, I have so many.
Got 2, 1 Rupiee coins and 1, 25 Paise coin, India, out of the CoinStar machine along with about $2 in cents, nickels and dimes. Nothin old.
I picked up a 1942 d mercury dime in change in a small village resturant !!! I even told the waitress what she had gave me and she didn,t care !!!! Lucky me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've gone through a few hundred rolls of dimes to date and I have never found a Mercury dime let alone been given one as change. Interesting things due turn up. The guy at my local coin shop told me the story of a gas station cashier who was paid with a $5 Indian gold piece for only face value! Said he gave the guy $100 for it...the guy who spent it must've been blind or high, I dunno which.
This week has been exceptional regarding my finding interesting coins! Latest find was tonight as I spread out my coins on my desk. Thought I had an old dime, but not so...something better! Australian 1943 three pence. Not certain where I received it, but I think probably at City Market food store.
I was a cashier for several years, and had many fantastic finds. - One was a 1909 wheat cent. - very worn - A 1936 DDO cent (or 37? I sold it) worth about $70 - A couple of copper dimes. - Thousands of wheat cents varying between good and uncirculated-like - A double center strike wheat cent with both dates visible, about 90 degrees rotation. Very cool! - An actual silver dollar (the big kind), someone bought a soda with it! The list goes on... Can anyone tell I'm a cent collector?
i just started looking at my change and found three 1970-s-fs design and one 69-s dont know if they are worth that much they are a little woren maybe some one could look at pic and tell me benchtopboy@yahoo.com
This isn't as exciting, but I got a Canadian penny from 1985 from Cold Stone Creamery in Flagstaff, Arizona..... I liked it....!
I have gotten silver quarters and dimes. Also one day found an Indian Cent on change at work as I broke open a roll of pennies. I was very happy when I found it. It was 1906.
My streak of luck continues. I have found considerable foreign coins over the past several days. The latest was discovered in my pocket when I returned home from a Friday night high school football game. Passes for a U.S. quarter. Dominican Republic 25 centavos. 1986. Western Colorado has been flooded with Spanish folks in recent years, and maybe that's why so many coins from Mexico, Central American countries, and now the DR.
Our local banks mist have received many rolls of the new Kansas quarter. My feeling was that the Kansas quarters would be squirreled away, and few would circulate. Over the past two days I have received better than a dozen in change at such stores as WalMart, Safeway, City Market, and our local Conoco gas and food store. All of ther Kansas quarters are BU and obviously right out of the rolls.
No great find, but with all the hoarding going on, I pleasantly suprised when I got a 2005 - P OIV nickel in change the other day. Also have received 5 or 6 wheaties in change the past few days....nothing older than 1941, but hadn't seen on in months.
Went through ~$200 of rolls and came up with... Couple of wheats (earliest 1939) 1956D quarter (in a roll with a local school's stamp on it nonetheless) 1943 nickel 1981P nickel with what looks like a small rim clip around 9 o'clock. 1976 dime that's just weird looking. Still undecided whether it's mint- or human- made. I have kept a 1981S Proof penny that I found in circulation a few years ago. It looks like a Type 2 because of the so-called bulbuous serifs that are characteristic of a Clear S. Probably wouldn't carry a premium, would it? It's still got reflective fields and would probably grade XF-AU.
Welcome to the forum Only premium on the proof find is the fun of finding it in circulation. You should start a new thread in the error coins section and post a pict of the obverse/reverse of your 1976 dime. Lots of knowledgeable folks here that'd take a crack at identifying it
I found an 1955d jefferson nickel if it wasn,t for the scratch across the step it would be a nice full step as is ef45 it definally was fs at one time in it,s history, steps are clear as bell on both sides of scratch, nice door & windows though. I think I,ll plug a hole with it
