I have a weakness for gold. Much more fun finding 62's around melt plus a little then buying modern AGE's.
Only 800 years old. Muwahhid dobla of Abu ‘Abd Allah Muhammad 1199-1213 AD. The Muwahhids ruled Spain and Morocco. Castile, Navarre, and Aragon defeated the Muwahhids at the battle of Las Navas de Tolosa in 1212 AD giving the Christians control over Andalusia.
Closest I can come to ANY old gold is my Rolled Gold...I've always got a bag of the latter in the cupboard...prefer the original large twists or the sticks.
Like previously stated, "nothing special". But, it's very welcome in my "type" collection (my "type" collection is anything I don't have a "type" of, lol).
Well, I've got something else that I think falls within the parameters of the OP? If it doesn't, please forgive me, but I'm very glad to have it. Loving history, it certainly piqued my interest, and I love Ship wrecks, too! I know it's small, but an actual gold nugget from the 1849 California Gold Rush Era! Did I mention, I love it! Ok, I'll shut up, now, lol. Blessings
Picked this one up for my type set to fill in the $20 Liberty Type 2 slot. Although it is a low MS coin, the contrast is really great on this example. The $20 Liberty is one of my favorite US coin designs. I wish the mint would do a modern re-issue of the $20 Liberty. Imagine a proof and reverse proof issue .
Already posted in new acquisitions but had to post here. I already had one of these, but could not resist getting another because of the color on this example. Hope you like it as much as I do.
My favorite US coin design, bar none. Even if it wasn’t an enormous, heavy gold coin (and was struck in silver, say for example) it would still be my favorite.
