Is this an error coin or just damaged?

  1. If it’s just damaged and not any type of error, I would be curious to know what would give it those marks.

Nice laminations and on a war time wheatie or is it a cracked/defective planchet. Looks like something else besides a few lams focusing around liberty and along the rim.

  4. Cool! My first error coin! I thought it might be lamination but I wanted to make sure. Thank you.

That is a nice obvious Retained Lamination coin.

I think the reason @JCro57 ask about its weight is because the weak strike on the reverse would indicate your coin was struck on a thin planchet. Which was most likely cut from the end of a strip of metal were it may be thinner and is more prone to having Lamination issues. I can also see a bit of wood grain effect near 'trust'.

  15. Thank you got the explanation. I was wondering what the weight of the coin could indicate.

Note the 'O' in one and the 'AM' of America. Both are common spots for weakness of strike, but usually not in both spots on one coin.
I took a closer look after seeing JCro57 post.

  17. Ok. I see. I’m definitely learning a lot. I appreciate you guys helping me out with all of my newbie questions. :shame:

I asked about the weight becuase there are 1941 dates on brass planchets that weigh a bit more
