Afternoon folks. I ordered one of those 2008 uncirculated dollar sets from the mint hoping that maybe I'd get lucky and receive an '08 silver eagle with an '07 reverse. Fat chance on that but I did notice that the Jackson dollar had a funky look. Took the set to my local coin club meeting last night and asked some of the guys what they thought was going on with it. Got everything from greased filled die to deteriorated die to counting machine damage. What do you folks think?
I would guess struck through grease (or some other viscous material) maybe...but I'm not certain, Bill (or someone else) might know otherwise...
It look like struck-through to me. It had grease still in the die which did not let the details come through. JMO
Right here Struck through grease. If you look at the surface of the fields you can see the channels created as the grease flowed across the surface during the strike. A common anomaly Thanks, Bill
