    Good afternoon all

I have found an interesting dime earlier today that I need everyone’s help on. At first I thought PMD but took a closer look and also weighed the coin ( 2.27g ) so I’m guessing no one has shaved any metal from the coin. My question is could a brockage ( not sure if spelt correctly ) cause this kind of error? The coin also has a small bend, I have tried my best to take pictures. Any help would be much appreciated

I could not picture the edges very well but the ones that are pancaked are very thin

Thank you for the reply. That’s exactly what I thought but it weighs exactly the same as a 2012 I have that has no damage. Wouldn’t grinding this down make it weigh less?

Thank you for the reply. I honestly thought the same but the scales are putting it at 2.27 along with another 2012 I have which is in perfect condition. Maybe it’s just wishful thinking on my part but it really seems like something other than being ground down to me

Also I meant broadstrike not brockage, I don’t think I can change the title but thought I had better comment here just so everyone knows I did do some research here before asking lol

Yeah that's cute, but defdam does not tell you much as most error coins are damaged in some way or another.
I don't think your coin is a mint error coin. It looks like it has been flattened in a hydraulic press of some type. Which lets it retain is original weight. At first I thought it may be a railroad token, but it retains to much of its interior design for that. It is just PMD. IMO.

Thank you for the reply, that would be very plausible, would there be any indications on the coin if this was done? I am going to put it under the microscope later to see if there are any major marks but to me it looked like an off center broadstrike again maybe that’s just my wishful thinking. Thanks again for the reply

It was the answer I wanted but if it’s not a broadstrike it’s not a broadstrike. Sometimes I may ask twice to be sure as I’ve noticed different people ( even educated ones ) have very different opinions. For instance the ragged fissure that I found along with a lamination error on a Roosevelt dime was classed as an error by many on here and even my LCS but someone that is meant to have knowledge on coin errors that I contacted tried to tell me it was PMD, if I had just listened to that one person I would not have kept the coin because I am a newbie but luckily I persevered and I was right to ( in that case at least )

Patience my lad, patience. Always wait for several replies to see how it goes. Be aware also, there are a few on this site who answer almost every post they see pop up. It does not matter if they actually know anything or not. They treat this site like Facebook, trying to accumulate the most likes or posting the most messages to see their numbers go up. Very childish really. And I'm not referring to long time, good standing members. Just a few that can be really annoying, uninformative and plain wrong way too many time. You'll figure them out in time.

Thank you for that, yes I’ve noticed that at times, luckily the majority are very helpful weather I get the answer I want or not the information is always good and a helpful learning curve. I’ve taken another look at the coin and although people on here have much more experience than I do with these errors I think I’m still going to take it to my LCS as the reeds are perfect even on the edges that appear to be pressed and the devices are all raised which doesn’t add up with the coin being pressed or tampered with post mint ( I could be wrong but just my opinion on it ) will keep my fingers crossed. Thanks again

Be aware though that most dealers do not specialize in errors and varieties. It's really a niche market and they don't like tying up space. They may not give you a correct answer unless they do specialize. But a second look never hurts.

Very true, the guy at my LCS is pretty good and knows his stuff, although not an error specialist by any means. If it’s something he’s unsure of he has people he can get in touch with. I will also research more online over the weekend and see if there’s any error specialists local to me I could go and see at some point to get their opinion. Thanks again for the input, it’s much appreciated

I learned long ago not to name names or starting food fights. They never end well and take away from the conversation at hand.
