Yep, and my pictures had to be angled because straight on shots showed how dark the coin was. I can blame myself for not taking pictures with strong light, but I will carefully examine what I get back from NGC, the close up pictures I had from before will help in comparisons between the two.
Has anyone had this swapping happened to them ? I'm sure years and years ago it went on, yeah, but now ? For the cost of this coin to reputation, I would hope not. Accidents can happen, I can't wait to compare.
Whom is the best grader, you. Whom is the best slabber, you. Whom is the only grader you do not have to pay, you. So, why send it in to a TPG, no reason! Just my opinion, be safe, good luck.
Ouch, but curious, you don't think the before and after pictures of the coin appear to be a bit different ?
Bear, I think he's just saying forget the TPGs, we don't need them as much as we think. I'm inclined to agree, I think they're over-used.
Hum, over-used by many collectors is understandable. This is only the second time I've ever sent coins in for slabbing, so I don't use them at all like many and it's because of costs. I'm done from here on out if what I get back is not the same.
I can understand there is a level of distrust in the hobby. In this particular aspect, though, I would decline to use the that particular cord in a tug of war, because it would surely break.
From the before and after pictures I can tell they are of the same coin. I'd wait until you get it in hand before making any phone calls. As someone else said it could be the lighting. I prefer pictures of coins in natural light so your coin in the slab may look like the coin you sent in. If the coin has been tampered with at NGC and you didn't request to have the dime "conserved" then they owe you the replacement value. However, from the pictures you have of the dime before you sent it in it looks like it may have been cleaned / dipped in the past. The obverse luster looks muted which could be a sign of it being cleaned or dipped sometime in the past.
did you ask them to clean it if you didnt i would sue them they should have told you first and had your ok if you deceided not to have it cleaned they should have sent it back you would have probably had to pay a fee but your coin would have been not cleaned.
I don't grade coins from pictures for a reason. Quite a few members here have already posted the same coin under different lighting and angles. Those coins are obviously the same coin but look dramatically different. All these 'jump to conclusion' posts before getting the coin in hand is the epitome of putting the cart before the horse. And calling NGC before getting the coin back is the most ridiculous thing I've heard so far. Bear, take a deeeeep breath, say Om Shanti three times, or just take a Xanax. Worry will kill you, especially unnecessary worry. Chill out and wait to see the coin in hand. I'm waging my bet on everything is going to be 100% spot on. Except of course your disappointment with the Details designation. That parts a bummer.
I get you. The overall reliance on ready-made grades and sticker-endorsements has dumbed us down, though. I think that's true, as a general proposition.
The coin in the slab, & the OP's pre-submission pictures are the same coin! While I'm with @masterswimmer regarding grading from pics, my hunch from the raw coin pics was it would not straight grade (albeit, those pics are horrible), but that's just my subjective opinion (based on pictures), which isn't worth anything. I still do not participate in any of the GTG posts. My bet is that in-hand, the coin will look the same as it did pre-submission. Hope to see the final result...
