Hi. I was hoping to get some help on this coin I picked up at a recent auction. It was sold as a Romanus IV Follis, with no further details. But the pictured coin showed the reverse of two figures, so it looked like it might be a Constantine X with Eudocia. When I got the coin, I realised that when you turned the reverse upside down it showed the figure of an emperor, probably over-struck on a Constantine X/Eudocia. Im trying to match up who it might be. Im not shore if he's holding a labarum or a cross topped sceptre in his right hand and its curved upward in a way like some later bronze tetarterons of John II, Manuel I etc. Its hard to make out any orb he might be holding in his left hand.The text is hard to distinguish and its hard to decipher what might be part of the over-struck coin. Im not an expert in Byzantine coins, and I know its not a valuable coin, but its intriguing me. Does anyone have any ideas. It would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much. I didn't even think to check Constantine X, thinking why would you overstrike such a recent coin. This is definitely the one. Constantine X Ducas, AE Follis SB 1854. I know its not a beautiful coin I've got, but I really love how the reverse works right side up orupside down!
