Doesn't help that the seller photos look like they were taken with my childhood vtech

The photos don't expand.........the coin looks gun metal grey, which makes me suspect an over zealous cleaning. Low AU high XF.

The coin is harshly cleaned, and not even close to AU, from those poor quality photos. Can’t even tell if it is authentic, from those pictures.

For that Price, I'd rather buy 1 Oz. Gold with change to spare .

For that coin, why isn't it in a TPG holder? Yeah, it might cost some, but if real , it is in the price asked, looks somewhat like a Copy, IMO, Jim

I agree, should already be graded & encased if authentic...

physics-fan3.14 You got any more of them.... prooflikes?

    1. The coin is cleaned. That uniformly bright appearance means it's been cleaned. The seller alludes to "maybe an old cleaning" to CYA... but he knows it's been polished. We're dealing with a problem coin.

    2. For details, I'd say it's probably low AU. There actually doesn't appear to be a significant amount of wear - the polishing makes it look a lower grade with this lighting.

    3. I don't see anything in these pictures that makes it look fake. I don't see any immediate red flags (without analyzing MM position, which is not something I'm an expert at.) This is the biggest reason to have it certified....

or you could just avoid a cleaned problem coin and not worry about this one.

Not AU and cleaned big time. First question you should have is why it isn't in a slab. Unless you know the seller any 1889 CC that hasn't been certified even if certified as cleaned should be avoided. There are plenty of them on the market so wait until you find a nice one.

Did I go to the wrong link? The coin that the above link went to an 89 CC Morgan for bidding starting at $2,499.99 without any bids.

Anyone who would spend that on an ungraded coin, with photos that are purposely intended to deceive makes the case to allow common sense into one's brain.

I agree with most everyone else, why is it not encapsulated and graded? Could be because it would grade with details, or is it even authentic? Definitely would not take the chance. Too many other options out there.

EF45 details, cleaned. The price is actually below a problem-free EF, but for that kind of money I wouldn't want a problem coin, especially when problem-free ones are readily available. The thing is, looking at Heritage prices realized for cleaned coins, this one is probably priced about right, maybe on the high end of the range. Seller should send it to GC for slabbing and make it go away.
