Its been quite a few boxes before finding a 1964 or earlier. Quite shocked. Seems like there almost non existence anymore.
I've been thru probably $1000 (4000) quarters, and $500 (1000) halves in the last several months, mostly BWRs, with no silver. I'm thinkin' the silver gets separated out by the machines (ala CoinStar) before being wrapped. I also went thru about $550 in loose change (from my daughter's personal and by son-in-law's business coin jars) - nothing there either, and they didn't know about silver. Definitely worse than even a year ago.
I thought I had a dump box. Ended up with W, S, Bu and a Silver And 2 possibe Lamination or Strike through. Not for sure. Have to further look into details
I get my better coins and some silver from the change I get when I pay cash at various stores. Wal-Mart and many other stores prefer payment with credit cards, but the do take currency and will give you exact change if you don't want to "round up". I got a silver half Kennedy from a gas station that doesn't take credit cards. I've gotten several silver quarters and silver dimes as well as a whole bunch of Canadian coins, especially their old pennies. I think they send their pennies to the U.S., since they are not currency in Canada (I think that's right.).
Indeed they "miss out" on the time/effort of finding a single silver quarter in five boxes worth...but not sure they "really miss out" all that much . If the joy is in the hunt to such an extent, so be it and to each their own...!
I check every handful of change as I go. Before they end up in my bucket. Box hunting isn’t for everyone for sure
I think it has been well publicized that silver coins are worth more than face value and everybody and their mother is on the look out. LOL
I’m keeping all my Canada pennies cuz. I’m going to try to get a few books and fill in a few pennies and enter them in a give away. With @lordmarcovan help I think
