So, I normally just collect Half Dollars, but two years ago, I bought 6 Morgans Dollars and I stored them in a drawer and forgot about them.

I bought them at one of these Antique Stores that just sell junk. But I saw these in a glass cabinet. They looked link of clean with minimal scratches, so I bought 6, and two of them look pretty good.

So today, I was looking at them under a magnifying glass and this is what I found, so I put them under a scope and took several pictures at different light angles.

It looks like there are three separate areas that I found interesting. The first area is to the right of the right-wing on the Obverse. It looks like a double-layered shield.

The second group of pictures is located just north of the left-wing shoulder, under "in", in god we trust.

The last group is located outside of the left wing halfway down. They are known die clashes. See if you can attribute a VAM number to them. Pictures and die markers are provided.

    LOl-It’s not a crash, it’s a clash. Very nice ones I must add. :)

    @PassthePuck

The clash to the left of the right-hand wreath on the reverse is from Liberty's "Cap Vee".

The clash below the "G" of IGWT is from Liberty's neckline. Look carefully to the left of her neck to see if there is any evidence of the "G" as a letter transfer. The "Cap Vee" clash is very common, but a letter transfer is attributable as a VAM.

Can you please help me locate that "G" you are talking about? I must be going blind.

I am thinking about getting these two coins graded (for S&G) just to see what they might be worth. I am thinking about sending pictures with the VAM areas. Or would that be a slap in their face? I have never done this before and I am kind of hoping for a recommendation on which one to send it to...PCGS or NGC?

Thanks for your help and advice in advance!

The G of In God We Trust, you have the image in your post. The graders will not do the work for you. You have to nail down exactly what Vam number each coin has and tell them on your submission. That is also an extra fee above the grading costs or it will just get graded and no Vam attribution will be on the slab label.
It can be quite a job to match exactly which die stage your coins are. That is basically what Vam's are. The study of die pairings and die stages. If you think this is above your capabilities, might I suggest signing up and posting your images, and asking for help on http://vamworld.com/wiki/Home
they are the experts and very helpful. Also the site has info on which of the Third Party Grading companies will attribute your Vam's.

I didn't imply that you have a "Clashed G". I just suggested that you look for it because the neck clash appears on the reverse below the "G". It is not often that we can see evidence of many letter clashes from photos. It's best to have the coin in-hand.

NGC and PCGS only attribute certain categories of VAM's like "Top 100", "Hot 50", etc., but they only attribute those that have been acknowledged as such by Leroy Van Allen, one of the co-authors of the "VAM Bible". ANACS is the only company that attributes all VAM's that are recognized by LVA.

Your coin looks to have been polished, so I don't think it would be worth all of the expense to send it to any company for grading and attribution, including ANACS.

After further inspection of the coin, I found these other areas of concern. Please see the following pictures. Morgan 1.jpg Morgan 2.jpg

The one under the leaves is also known. Now you just got to ascertain which Vam your two coins have

It looks highly polished. It should stop him having it graded but he can still search the Vam and at least try to attribute it for his own satisfaction.
