What I'm seeing is a lot more of the buffalo than I would expect on a coin that was worn to the point it had no date and no horn. I don't know can treatment bring that much back? Or could it have been so badly treated that it ate away the detail?
Considering I've only completed one set in my life (business strike Two Cent Pieces) I DO have a few AG small mottos and an AG 1872. No pics but identifiable and original.
AHHH!!! I need a 24D Filler!! I have Two Lincoln Sets.. ( well several Semi sets ) One that is Missing only 3 And I will be getting those to match the set in VG-EF The other set I am working on I am willing to put fillers in just to be done with it.. Still need the Same 3 Keys 14D 22 no D and the 09sVDB.. But need a 24D 11S and 31S in Filler shape..
One of my ugliest has to be the 1901-S Barber dime. Dealer wanted $50 and I talked it down to $40. Next up is the 1897-S barber half for about $30. Those two you can actually tell what they are. Also have a slug of copper in the 14-D hole. It's a little more beat up than the one posted by CamaroDMD. But it sort of looks like a 14-D.
Oh! Just remembered.... I have an 1806 bust quarter, PO-1/FR-2 details, HOLED. Hey...whaddya want for 10 bucks?
I have lots of 'dogs' - an 1801 half dime, an 1803 half dime severely soldered, and a few with holes, including an 1865 dime, a three dollar gold piece, a gold dollar, an 1803 dollar, an 1803 dollar, and several fair-2 or AG coins. My wife thinks that gives them a certain charm, in that it proves someone used them. Old copper is particularly interesting. But laquer turns me off.
Cider Vinegar. A very simple process, put the nickels in Vinegar, really any kind will work, but I like results out of cider vinegar, leave them in there til the vinegar completely evaopates and the coins are left with a blue-green crystaline structure on them, wash that off with hot water and your thumb and you'll have a full horn, full date buffalo that looks "odd" . I go through a lot of dateless buffs with mm just to see what I come up with, sometimes I find nice better dates, still haven't found a 18/7 yet though.
