I will have to go back and probe it a bit closer. The transition between the silver section and the "surround" doesn't look like two pieces or an encased silver round. They look to be contiguous, except for the coloration. Given the valuations on Ampex, I didn't do too poorly on it. Z
I found this on a site dedicated to table making - This one is really cool! It took 2 layers of Lincoln cents to fill in the spaces.
Some silver stackers punch out the inserts and save them for the price to go as high as the TV commercials claim its going.
Here’s a similar piece in worse condition. I think they had to pay for these, maybe 25 or 50 cents is my guess.
Looking through some boxes and came across these Mexican medals that I don’t know that much about. This first one I’ve been told has a mintage of 200. Tried looking them up again and the third result I found was me posting on CU 7 years ago asking for info. Both are silver.
Berkeley California Herbert Jones Men's Furnishings Token Brass, 31 mm, 9.19 gm Herbert Jones Men's Furnishings was a men's clothing store located in Berkeley near the University of California. The stores were in business from around 1909 into the 1930's.
If you hadn’t have mentioned the silver content, I’d have guessed those were bronze, based on the color.
They have a very dark Matte finish on them. I was going to pass on them in the antique shop but decided to take a look. They reminded me of this Medalicc art piece that I bought years ago. The Ike weighs 52.8 grams .999 pure
Discovered a Dan Carr “Knights of the Coin Table” medal in my unsorted pile o’ stuff yesterday. Very lustrous and quite prooflike. Overstruck on a 1965 British Churchill crown. (Of which I also happen to have most of a bag of 100 of sitting around, which I bought a while back, because it was at a price I could not refuse.)
That's a nice bulk bin find. This was the last medallic issue of Whitehead & Hoage. What is the diameter? The large ones (around 4" going from memory) are relatively scarce.
I previously posted the 1975 Someone mentioned they were born in 1974 so… If you’re the one for 1974, message me
A few recent acquisitions and the flagships of my elongated collection. I'm planning on self-slabbing these as soon as the slabs arrive from China. Z
